Der Epsilon-8130 ist ein eigenständiger Switch, der keine Host-Computer-Schnittstelle benötigt. Alle Switch-Funktionen werden von einem direkt im Switch integrierten 416-MHz-MIPS-Prozessor verwaltet. Der Zugriff auf den Prozessor erfolgt über eine Webschnittstelle über einen der Ethernet-Ports oder übereinen seriellen RS-232-Port. Die integrierte Webschnittstelle bietet eine intuitive grafische Benutzeroberfläche für die Konfiguration und Verwaltung aller Switch-Funktionen. Der On-Board-Speicher enthält duale Anwendungsimages, Boot-Code, MAC-Adressen und andere Parameter und kann auch für die Programmausführung verwendet werden.
